In Memory of Ulpiano Santo (a.k.a. King Pong)

In Memory of Uncle Pinto (National Ping Pong Champion)
Ulpiano Santo, 98, died in his sleep at his home in Chesapeake, this past Friday, Oct. 27. Possibly the oldest Filipino resident in Hampton Roads, he was an 11-time national ping pong champion, an organizer among the Filipino senior citizens and at his ripe age, still driving. 
According to Virginian Pilot reporter Jim Washington, Uncle Pinto picked up ping pong while serving on a destroyer ship in the U.S. Navy.
He was a self-taught player, who was known for his defensive style ''chopping block'' style. His serves and returns varied so much his opponents would be unprepared. This video from hardbat.com stated that five years ago, Ulpiano was the most active senior athlete in the U.S. 
The winemaker hobbyist, gardener and home DIYer remained active until last month.
